Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is all smiles on the first day of her trip to the Philippines

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands was glowing on Tuesday as she visited the Philippines' Talim Island on the first day of her trip to the archipelago in southeastern Asia.

Sporting a fluorescent life jacket to make the trip to Talim Island, the royal, 53, who is in the Philippines in her capacity as United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA), smiled throughout the first engagement of her three-day visit.

Dressed for the sunny weather in a patterned maxi dress and sandals, Máxima looked stylish in a pair of large sunglasses with blue frames and a wide-brimmed straw hat.

The mother-of-three's dress featured a floral pattern in purple, green and blue and three-quarter sleeves while her woven sandals combined deeper shades of blue and purple.

Máxima accessorised her outfit with a blue clutch bag and a pair of earrings with large blue stones as well as a number of gold and silver bracelets and a silver watch.

With her shoulder-length, blonde hair loose and subtle make-up, the Dutch royal was happy and relaxed despite the heat thanks to a large hand-held fan.

The Queen, who had received a decorative garland with a large yellow flower, was seen greeting children, talking to local people and even standing on a small fishing boat.

A trained economist who had a career in international finance and emerging markets, Máxima was appointed as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development in 2009.

Her trip to the Philippines comes after a busy week of engagements in the Netherlands.

Last Thursday evening, Máxima wowed in a statement one-shoulder jumpsuit on Thursday evening as she attended a ceremony celebrating the very best of Dutch business.

Featuring a diamond broach on the left shoulder, the royal's cream satin outfit was nothing short of a showstopper.

As such, it was the perfect choice for 'Oscars of the Dutch Business Community', the King Willem I Prize, which was presented in the northeastern city of Zwolle.

Máxima's striking wide-leg jumpsuit, which showed off her toned physique, featured a slim waist belt in the same cream satin with a rectangular buckle.

She completed her outfit with a pair of crystal-embellished heels and an equally glitzy clutch bag.

With her long blond hair loose and subtle make-up, including a slick of pale pink lipstick, dark eyeliner and bronzer, the radiant royal looked as elegant as she did stylish.

She chose to keep her jewellery simple so as not to distract from her outfit, wearing just a slim watch, a diamond bracelet and a pair of gold earrings.

Described by the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce as 'the ultimate crowning achievement of good entrepreneurship', the King Willem I Prize is awarded biennially.

The previous day Máxima had attended a lab in the central city of Wageningen where she shone in a yellow ensemble.

She took a trip to Food Valley, an organisation that guides companies to transition into a more sustainable food system.

She oozed elegance as she arrived at the event in a Johanna Ortiz canary yellow maxi dress with brown paisley pattern detailing on it.

The stand-out garment - which Maxima has worn on multiple occasions - was cinched at the waist, showing off her slender figure.

She chose to match her flamboyant frock with chocolate-coloured accessories, donning a pair of patent heels, walnut-coloured round stud earrings and a chic clutch bag.

She wore her blonde tresses down in a stylish straight blowdry and opted for her classic full-glam makeup look.

Maxima looked in high spirits as she greeted and shook hands with officials who showed her around the building.

The Queen even tried her hand at becoming a scientist herself, as she put on a bright white lab coat.

Maxima listened intently as the staff explained what the different substances were and she was given a tour, smelling different dishes along the way.

In one photo, the royal looks shocked as an employee explains the different sauces that people may use in their dishes.

Food Valley emerged in 2004 from a collaboration between Wageningen University and Research, agrifood companies and the regional government.
